The multi-cultural, Copenhagen-based ensemble Klanglys was formed in 2019 by German guitar player, singer and composer Johannes Käsbach.
The signature of Klanglys is the blend of instrumental and vocal tunes composed and arranged with love, and a high appreciation for various musical styles that melt gently together: From Jazz and world music to post-rock and classic the listener is offered a diverse space of sound. The collaboration with friend and guest musicians and other artists is a fundamental part of Klanglys.
Making listening, both, perceptible and tangible, this is what it’s all about for Johannes Käsbach @johannes_kasbach!
From the anatomy of the ear to everything that has to do with sound, the acoustician, jazz guitar player, vocalist and composer, is navigating KLANGLYS and his audience through a world of music and languages.
Telling stories and reflecting thoughts that tell about decisions and priorities in life is exactly what his music is about. He thereby develops, like an architect, compositions across musical styles, and builds harmonic sound sculptures that are made for listeners to stay and to shape their dreams. To make these constructs perceptible and tangible, the use of pictures, light, and colors is as important as the drawing of landscapes, transcending the listener through time and space as they wander rhythmically in synchronisation with the music.
Johannes values the interrelationship with his band members and his audience, because he has a mission for KLANGLYS, to be inclusive and accessible.
Aleksandra is educated as Jazz vocalist and choir conductor as well as classical violin player. This combination is magical for Klanglys since it reflects the project’s architecture which is built around the union of string instruments and vocal harmonies. Hence, you see her with us in this unique and beautiful double-role. Aleks has a very lively humor and character which both are visible in her dedication to music. She is from Gdańsk in Poland and part of the larger polish family within our band.
Check also Aleks’ project Almadera @almadera.hello that has the same vivid collaboration with @johannes_kasbach.
Her band Shaevrak is also in the proces of releasing their debut alt-pop electronic album Archived Future: shaevrak.com
She is as well member of the @voicingers family and you might catch her also at one of her great choir shows.
The polish name Wojciech is formed from two Slavic words (Woj-ciech) and means “joyous warrior”. But referring to this gentle person you should not think about war at all, rather a honorable master, a warrior of notes and sound colors.
Wojciech is of good nature and a sensitive person that might carry a worrier’s honor. When he plays trumpet or Flugelhorn, his sound completes the sonic spectrum of Klanglys including guitar, violin and vocals. He takes so good care of the intonation such that the sound of his trumpet almost huddles against the other instruments. During his soli, his internal fire inflames. You can see the joy in his eyes when the solo form leaves him a lot of freedom for development, such that he can create his own universe with an almost free-jazz character (check out his solo on our tune “unforeseen”…).
Wojciech has been with Klanglys from the early days of the band in 2019 and appears on our debut album “In Hindsight”.
You can further explore his creative nature with the trio @threepartsofcake and his board-creation company @msterrainlab
Alejandro @alejandrogispert enriches Klanglys with his Latin temperament. Born in Havana, you see him always smiling and always happy.
It is a pleasure to have him with us. He handles both double bass and electric bass, the latter preferably for Klanglys for a punchy and funky touch of colors.
Alejandro also lived in Norway for many years giving him plenty of notions of Nordic Jazz.
Jan @jan_kadereit, from Mülheim an der Ruhr in Germany, is not only a very good and talented drummer, he is also a composer and multi-percussionist. Among other percussion instruments, his speciality is playing Indian tablas. With such a wide spectrum he is a painter of rhythm using plenty of colors. His contribution makes Klanglys‘ music extremely lively. Jan is a very kind and engaged soul and supports the project with his entire heart.
Currently, he is recording new music with Gamelan orchestra @gamelan_salukat in Indonesia.
Also check out Jan on Raphael Gimenes‘ albums as well as on @calumbuilder Murmuration.
Sebastian @sebastian__zawadzki, as well from Poland, is only in the beginning of his 30s, but already a legend :
The very talented pianist from Toruń, has studied jazz, classical and film music which makes him a very versatile player. To complete his musical capabilities, he has a professional home recording studio for producing his own music (https://www.sebastian-zawadzki.com). His musical background and ability to listen very carefully are the key to contribute with special and gentle color layers to Klanglys’ music. His non-stoppable interest, curiosity and openness to try new sounds make him a very valuable musician in our orchestra. Meeting Sebastian, you will immediately remark his kindness and humble character and understand why he likes saying “I simply love to play music”.
